A cartoon in Billy
Graham's Decision magazine showed a picture of a night
stand near a bed. The clock on the stand had a note by it that
read, "If You will wake me, I'll pray." The Holy Spirit
quickened that scene to me, indicating "that's for you". I
said, "Yes, Lord, if you will wake me,
I'll
pray." Being a relatively sound sleeper I felt any waking to
pray would be of God.
My aged
father lived with us most of the last four years of his life
and from time to time he became a little confused. The first
night after committing to rise and pray if God wakened me,
there was a loud rapping on our bedroom door in the middle of
the night. It startled me, to say the least. There was Dad,
banging on the door with his cane, shouting, "Jim, get up,
the telephone
is ringing. I had a phone by my bed and it hadn't rung, but
by the time I got "Grandpa" back to bed I was wide awake - to
pray!
Four years of
occasional night time excitement like that got me in the habit
of rising in the night to spend time with the Lord. Much of
the devotional material in the following pages is an outcome
of such times
spent with the Lord in prayer and fellowship.
Any blessings
these devotionals are to you, may God be praised.
I would like to thank my wife, Vicky,
for her deep appreciation for the Word and
for the countless hours spent in putting these thoughts into
readable form. The graphics are the work of my 11
grandchildren; the greater share was contributed by Nathan
Potter.
Thank you, Heavenly Father, for making
me a part of Your Family. Without
that relationship I would have nothing worth writing about. To
You be praise. |
