The
best example on “”how to pray” was given by our Lord when His
disciples asked Him to teach them to pray. He gave them a
general outline rather than a prayer simply to be quoted.
Luke
11,2-4 (NKJ)
So He said to them,
"Our Father in
heaven, Hallowed be Your Name. Your kingdom come.
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our
sins, for we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the
evil one."
1. “Our
Father” - we are addressing a loving, caring, all
knowing heavenly Father who has our best interest at heart. He
only waits for us to commune with Him in prayer.
2.
“Hallowed be Your
Name” -
prayer must include worship to Him who is worthy.
3. “Your
kingdom come, Your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven” - Ask for God’s will to be
done in the affairs of nations, peoples and situations.
Ask for missionaries to be called and sent to spread the Good
News of God’s love worldwide.
4. “Give
us day by day our daily bread.” - He invites us to
entreat Him for our own daily needs as well: whether it is
spiritual, material,
social or physical; God is concerned about it.
5.
“And
forgive us our sins” - John says “If we confess our
sins, He is
faithful and just to forgive us our
sins and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)
Then we must be quick to forgive
our fellow man.
6.
“but deliver us from the evil one” - The devil goes about
seeking to trap us by many snares and temptations. All who
stay close to God through prayer will overcome temptation. |
